🌟 Welcome to Year 6! 🌟

Welcome to a new and exciting school year! Mrs Owen, Mrs Logan and I are delighted to welcome you all back to school and are looking forward to a year filled with learning, discovery, challenge and lots of wonderful memories.

Year 6 is an important year as we encourage you to become increasingly independent, resilient and responsible learners. We will challenge you to think deeply, ask questions, share your ideas and always strive to be the very best version of yourselves.

In Year 6, we know that being proud isn’t always about getting the biggest score or producing the perfect piece of work. Sometimes, it’s about the small steps we take each day.

Our class values remind us that who we are and how we grow matters just as much as what we achieve. Every challenge we face, every mistake we learn from and every time we choose to keep trying helps us become the best version of ourselves.

So, what have you done today to make yourself proud?

If I am not available to speak straightaway, I will always call back at the next convenient time. You can also email the school office if this is preferred.

Routines

Drop Off and Pick Up

We operate a 'Drop and Go' system in the mornings. Children can access our free breakfast club from 8:15am, entering from our main entrance or enter through our KS2 gates from 8:25am until 8:45am.

School finishes at 3:10pm, where we will leave through the red gate on the KS2 playground. If you wish for your child to leave the KS2 premises on their own, please ensure you email our school office with written consent. This is even for walking to your car or meeting you on the KS1 playground.

📚 What will we be learning?

✝️ RE – Creation and Covenant

In R.E., we will begin our Creation and Covenant topic by exploring the biblical accounts of the creation of the world.

We will then consider the story of the Fall and Original Sin, thinking carefully about what these stories teach Christians about humanity, temptation, choices and our relationship with God. We will have opportunities to explore the deeper spiritual meanings within Scripture, ask thoughtful questions and reflect on how these teachings connect with Christian beliefs and values.

🔢 Mathematics

We will begin the year by developing a strong understanding of place value, exploring the value of digits in increasingly large numbers. We will then build on this knowledge as we develop our understanding and fluency with the four operations: addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.

📖 English

Our first English unit will be based around the powerful and thought-provoking book One Day. Through the text, we will gain an insight into the lives and experiences of Jewish people during the Second World War.

🔬 Science

In Science, we will be exploring Evolution and Inheritance. We will learn how living things have changed over time and consider how fossils provide evidence for evolution.

🪖 History

Our History topic this term is WW2. We will explore the causes and key events of the war and develop our understanding of what life was like for people during this significant period in history.

🎨 Our Wider Curriculum

Alongside our core subjects, we will continue to develop our creativity, teamwork, communication and confidence through our wider curriculum subjects and enrichment opportunities.

We are particularly looking forward to seeing you challenge themselves, try new things and discover new interests throughout the year.

Homework - Children are to read for 5 minutes every night. We encourage Year 6 to take responsibility and write their own comments in their diaries. 

                  - Children also have their TT Rockstars logins which will have a new tournament set each week.

💫 A Year to Remember 

There is so much to look forward to in Year 6! We want our classroom to be a place where you feel safe, valued, challenged and excited to learn.

We cannot wait to see you grow in confidence and independence and make memories that you will treasure for years to come.
