Welcome to our Year 2's class page!

We are looking forward to a fantastic year full of learning, creativity and new experiences. In year 2 we continue

to grow in confidence, independence and curiosity as we build on skills we have already developed throughout KS1. Each day allows 

us to be curious in our learning, bring new opportunities for us to explore and to challenge ourselves. 

This year we have a lot of exciting learning experiences which include engaging topics, creative activities and opportunities to challenge ourselves. 

We are proud of the progress we make and enjoy celebrating our achievements together. 

What will we be learning?

RE

Children will explore Creation and Covenant, learning about the creation of the world and the story of Noah’s Ark. They will think about how we can care for one another and look after God’s wonderful world. Children will have opportunities to reflect on kindness, responsibility and how their actions can make a difference.

English

Using the beautiful picture book A River, children will have opportunities to predict, imagine and develop their own ideas, becoming increasingly independent in their thinking and writing. They will develop their use of nouns, adjectives and adverbs, while learning to use a range of suffixes to make their writing more interesting and detailed.

Maths

In Maths, children will develop their understanding of numbers to 100. They will explore place value and use the part-part-whole model to understand how numbers can be represented and broken down. Children will develop their fluency and confidence through practical activities, reasoning and problem solving.

Guided Reading

We will be reading Sharks and Other Creatures. Children will develop their reading comprehension by answering questions where the information can be found directly in the text. They will work on finding evidence, explaining their answers and becoming increasingly independent readers with a deeper understanding of what they read.

Science

In Science, children will explore different materials and the objects they are used to make. They will investigate the properties of different materials and consider why particular materials are suitable for different purposes. Children will carry out practical investigations to discover which materials would be best for making a strong bridge and a waterproof jacket.

History

Children will explore significant people from our local area, learning about their lives and why they are remembered today. They will develop their understanding of chronology and timelines, placing important events in the correct order. This will help children understand how people and events from the past have changed and influenced the world around us, while making connections between the past and their own local community.

PE

PE days will be Tuesday and Wednesday.

This term, children will develop their Ball Skills and Gymnastics, focusing on coordination, movement, balance, control and working effectively with others.

Homework

Children are encouraged to read for 15 minutes every day and share their reading with an adult where possible.
